Do you think you have good communication skills? More times than not those who would say they do are just really good at talking. The quiet spaces make them nervous, and they get lost in their own head until the thoughts spill over. Suddenly, they have diarrhea of the mouth, and there is no telling exactly where their thought processes are going.

The longer these individuals work at refining their skills, the better they get at sharing ideas, but there is a volatile time where those that surround them can influence whether they continue to speak or just shut down completely. I know this because my family (white Americans) are a bunch of talkers, but terrible at actually communicating; however, if you listen long enough to follow all the stories, you begin to see the magic behind their words.

Words are important. When we fail to choose the correct ones to use, misunderstandings occur that can cause great pain to others, and hurt people hurt people. My greatest fear is that in the attempt to learn how to communicate, my family has caused so much pain that there is no coming back. Allow me to spin a tale, and you can choose to believe me or not.

Since the beginning of time, my family has existed…. or at least for as far back as we can remember. Our job is to keep the timeline and do our best to do no harm, but like I said, we’ve messed up big time. In an attempt to keep moving forward, we have forgotten to go back, clean up the mess, and pay our debts. I don’t know about you, but I think it is long over due to pay the piper. I have a plan to do it, but I’m going to need some help. If you’d like to join me on this journey and help make the world a better place, you have to be willing to follow the rules.

The thing with the rules is that not everyone follows them, and the more you learn about the magic of words, the more individuals think they can use them to manipulate others into doing their bidding. The world has become full of charismatic, narcissistic, assholes who believe they are superior and use their words to perpetuate fear. Quite often, they use their intelligence as a weapon of mass destruction, creating the very thing that will be their downfall.

Social engineering was coined by an American hacker who “discovered” it was easier to trick someone into giving up their password than trying to hack the system. The individual was on the FBI’s most wanted list, spent 5 years in prison, and then had a career in the security industry teaching the world how he hacked computer systems in the U.S. The problem with hacking computer systems is that there is the temptation to see what you can do, even when you probably shouldn’t.

Now it’s possible to get paid to learn how to hack these systems and for individuals with a lot of time on their hands, it can become a very slippery slope. The thing is these systems are becoming harder and harder to crack, so the ability to social engineer an individual to giving up information they shouldn’t is becoming more and more of a threat. This is why learning about common social engineering threats are so important.

What is the Hive Social Garden?

The brain child of two queer, disabled and neuro-divergent Marines trying to learn how to love each other better and make the world a better place, the Hive Social Garden is a non-profit, member owned community using social engineering to help LGBTQ+ creatives, sex workers, and their allies to secure the intellectual property of vulnerable communities.

We believe that all people deserve access to Affordable Housing, Free Medical Care (to include gender affirming care, abortions care, and mental health services), Free Access to Educational Services including Public Access to Information with Self-censorship, and Affordable Nutrition.

We provide Disruption-as-a-Service with a new take on ethical social engineering.

This is what the Hive Social Garden is going to do: teach you how to protect everything that makes you the amazing being you are (your intellectual property) and create the light you want to see the world.

Current Projects

HerStory: The American Womxn is the first step in an adventure of self discovery and setting the record straight. The Garden will be collecting true stories of U.S. women and building a safe, secure database of “HerStories” to capture the many things our mothers have done to keep the children safe. We hope to uncover all the untold stories of feminine strength that contributed to growth of society, despite the hate, violence, and wars waged by authoritarians.

The Activate project’s mission is to activate the critical communications infrastructure available to the residents of Anacostia and enable the unique sound and stories to send a message of hope and change to the world. The radio was created as a way to send out information and because of social disparities it is dominated by an overwhelming conservative viewpoint. We Act Radio is one of only 9% in the progressive network of voices speaking truth to power, and we plan to turn up the volume by establishing a locally owned and operated knowledge management system to secure the intellectual property of artists and cultural voices in Anacostia and renovate our community spaces into a fully self-sustaining ecosystem.
